SEWARD, Neb. – Seniors Emmie Noyd of the volleyball program and Derek Tachovsky of the football program have been named the Bulldog Athletic Association Member (BAAM) Athletes of the Month of September 2019. The two standout student-athletes were winners of voting that took place at the BAAM luncheon on Tuesday (Oct. 1). Nominees for the monthly award are comprised of the BAAM Athletes of the Week throughout that month. Recipients of the monthly awards will receive plaques from the athletic department.
Starting with the 2017-18 academic year, the Bulldog Athletic Association Members began naming male and female athletes of the month. Noyd also collected a BAAM monthly honor last season as a junior.
Noyd, a native of Shelby, Neb., has elevated her game as a senior. The star middle blocker has helped head coach Ben Boldt’s squad to a 15-2 overall record (4-2 GPAC) in one of the best 17-match stretches to open a season in school history. Noyd is the team leader with her totals of 214 kills (3.8/set) and 62 blocks (1.1/set) while hitting .374. Among all NAIA volleyball players, Noyd ranks sixth in hitting percentage, 25th in kills per set and 27th in blocks per set. She was named the GPAC Attacker of the Week on Sept. 10. Noyd has pummeled at least 10 kills in 13 of 17 matches. She is a two-time second team All-GPAC honoree.
Tachovsky, who hails from Wilber, Neb., has been a key figure for a defense that ranks fourth nationally against the run. The senior linebacker garnered GPAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades on Sept. 23 after he collected seven tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery in the 44-0 win at Hastings. On the season, Tachovsky has notched 33 tackles, five tackles for loss, two sacks and two interceptions. Tachovsky and his teammates forced seven turnovers last week in the 16-14 victory over Briar Cliff. Tachovsky was an honorable mention All-GPAC selection last season.
