
SEWARD, Neb. – As announced by the NAIA on Monday (July 15), 19 Concordia University varsity athletic squads have been honored with NAIA Scholar-Team status for the 2018-19 academic year. For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0-grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.
As the NAIA all-time leader for number of Scholar-Athletes, Concordia athletes have produced a strong record of excellent achievement in the classroom. Also during the 2018-19 year, Bulldogs combined for a school record 117 NAIA Scholar-Athlete awards. In addition, eight Concordia student-athletes were named 2018-19 CoSIDA Academic All-District honorees with Samantha Liermann and Josiah McAllister both pulling CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year accolades in track and field.
In terms of grade point average, the top five Concordia athletic teams in 2018-19 were competitive dance (3.655), softball (3.647), women’s track and field (3.622 outdoor/3.620 indoor), women’s cross country (3.589) and women’s soccer (3.482). Only one other NAIA baseball team nationally produced a better GPA than the 3.357 turned in by Bulldog baseball student-athletes.
