Introducing the Hall of Fame class of 2016

SEWARD, Neb. – Concordia University athletics has officially announced four former athletes and one team as Hall of Fame inductees for the class of 2016. The induction ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. on Oct. 7 as part of homecoming weekend on campus. The event will again take place within the Cattle Conference Room located on the top floor of the Janzow Campus Center.

Concordia University Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2016

1994-95 Men’s Basketball

  • Went 30-4 overall and advanced to the quarterfinals of the national tournament.
  • Won the Nebraska-Iowa Athletic Conference title with an 11-1 league record.
  • Ranked No. 2 in the final NAIA Division II coaches’ poll.
  • Leading scorer: Ryan Kness – 19.7 points per game.
  • Head coach: Grant Schmidt (445-276, 23 years).

John Puelz ’92, Basketball

  • Among all players in program history, ranks third in scoring (1,955), 15th in assists (201) and 17th in rebounds (474).
  • Named first team all-NIAC, first team NAIA all-district 11 and NAIA honorable mention All-America as a senior in 1991-92.
  • As a senior, averaged 16.0 points and 3.7 rebounds while making 106 3-point field goals for a team that went 26-10 overall, won NAIA district and NIAC titles and reached the NAIA national semifinals.
  • Coached by Grant Schmidt.

Phil Seevers ‘89, Football / Baseball

  • Named honorary captain of the 1988 Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska football team.
  • Tabbed 1988-89 Concordia Male Senior Athlete of the Year.
  • Chosen to football first team of the Nebraska Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 1988.
  • Led NAIA District 11 in passing yards (1,938) in 1988.
  • Received first team all-NIAC recognition three times in baseball.
  • Coached by Larry Oetting.

Sean Stewart ’03, Football

  • Totaled 290 tackles, 20 interceptions and 11 tackles for loss over 39 career games.
  • Tied a school single-season record with nine interceptions in 2002.
  • Named first team all-Great Plains Athletic Conference three times.
  • Selected as a second team NAIA All-American in 2002 (honorable mention in 2000 and 2001).
  • Chosen by the Omaha World-Herald as the honorary defensive captain of the 2002 All-Nebraska team.
  • Coached by Courtney Meyer.

Whitney Stichka ’09, Basketball

  • Selected as a first team All-American in 2009, a second team All-American in 2008 and an honorable mention All-American in 2007.
  • Named 2008-09 Concordia Female Senior Athlete of the Year.
  • On program all-time lists, ranks third in scoring (1,745 points), 11th in assists (317) and 16th in steals (173).
  • Led Concordia to NAIA national quarterfinals in both 2008 and 2009.
  • Coached by Todd Voss and Drew Olson.
