SEWARD, Neb. – Sophomores Hhana Haro of the softball program and Cody Williams of the track and field program have been especially high achievers since April 1. As a result, Haro and Williams have been named the Bulldog Athletic Association Athletes of the Month of April 2019. The two standout student-athletes were winners of voting that took place at the Bulldog Athletic Association Member Luncheon on Tuesday (May 7). Nominees for the monthly award are comprised of the Bulldog Athletic Association Athletes of the Week throughout that month. Recipients of the monthly awards will receive plaques from the athletic department.

Starting with the 2017-18 academic year, the Bulldog Athletic Association began naming male and female athletes of the month. Haro and Williams have both earned the award for the first time.

Named GPAC Player of the Year as a freshman in 2018, Haro was just announced as a 2019 first team All-GPAC selection on Wednesday (May 8). The native of Garden Grove, Calif., has sizzled since April Fool’s Day, batting .452 (33-for-73) with 16 runs scored, five doubles, three home runs, 21 RBIs, a .523 on-base percentage and a .644 slugging percentage over a 24-game period. Haro was named the GPAC Player of the Week on April 16. On the season, the star third baseman and No. 3 hitter in the lineup batted .411 with a .476 on-base percentage and .629 slugging percentage. She totaled 27 runs, nine doubles, six RBIs, 37 RBIs and 78 total bases. In 81 career games as a Bulldog, Haro has hit .457 with 29 doubles, 11 home runs and 75 RBIs. With 127 hits through her first career 81 games, Haro is on a pace to challenge the school record of 227 career hits by Mindy (Evans) Miller.

The indoor national runner up in the heptathlon, Williams picked up this outdoor season where he left off at the end of indoor season. In an already impressive career, the native of Imperial, Neb., native put forth his best work this past week at the GPAC outdoor championships, where Williams totaled 34 team points and was named the GPAC Outstanding Athlete of the Meet. He competed in five open events and produced terrific results that included conference titles in the 110 meter hurdles (14.88) and the long jump (23’ 7 ¼”) and place finishes of second in the high jump (6’ 7 ½”) and third in the triple jump (45’ 1 ¾”). The long jump was a new personal best. In addition, Williams put up season bests of 14.80 in the 110 hurdles at the Concordia Invite, 6’ 9 ¾” in the high jump at the Dutcher Memorial and 15’ 7” in the pole vault at the NAIA Midwest Quad.
