SEWARD, Neb. – As voted upon at Tuesday (Dec. 4)’s Bulldog Athletic Association Member luncheon, junior Alberto Garcia of the wrestling program and senior Quinn Wragge of the women’s basketball program have been named the Bulldog Athletic Association Athletes of the Month of November 2018. Nominees for the monthly award are comprised of the Bulldog Athletic Association Athletes of the Week throughout that month. Recipients of the monthly awards will receive plaques from the athletic department.
Starting with the 2017-18 academic year, the Bulldog Athletic Association began naming male and female athletes of the month. Deeter and Ferrer are both first-time recipients of the monthly honor.
Garcia, a native of Escondido, Calif., takes the monthly award based on a singular dominant performance at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Open. A transfer from Palomar College, Garcia toppled two NCAA Division I and two NCAA Division II foes in the process of winning the 133-pound title of the elite division at the UNK Open. As part of the run, he defeated University of Mary’s Tate Barnhardt, ranked ninth at 133 pounds in NCAA D-II. In the championship match, Garcia knocked off the University of Nebraska’s Jevon Parish, 13-7. As a result, Garcia earned the GPAC Wrestler of the Week award. He is ranked ninth in the NAIA at 133 pounds.
Wragge, who hails from Crofton, Neb., has helped lead the women’s basketball team to a 9-1 start. Over eight games in the month of November, Wragge averaged 13.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.75 steals per game while shooting 54.1 percent from the floor. In the Nov. 28 contest versus Morningside, Wragge became the 10th player in program history to eclipse 1,500 career points. On the school’s all-time lists, Wragge also ranks eighth in rebounds (691) and 16th in steals (210). On the season, Wragge is averaging 13.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.8 steals. She is a three-time first team All-GPAC selection and was a 2017-18 third team All-America choice.
