Fall sport schedule changes announced

SEWARD, Neb. – Each of Concordia’s fall sports have adjusted their schedules to align with guidelines put forth by both the GPAC and the NAIA. The changes have come in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The GPAC Return to Play Task Force made specific reductions in the maximum number of contests for each fall sport, as announced by the GPAC on June 9. Below is an outline of the changes to Concordia’s fall sports schedules.

Competition, either conference or nonconference, may begin no earlier than Saturday, Sept. 5 in the sports of volleyball, soccer, cross country, tennis, baseball and softball. Football competition will start no earlier than Saturday, Sept. 12. Student-athletes may begin official practice (as defined by the NAIA) no earlier than Aug. 15.

CHANGES TO CONCORDIA SCHEDULES

Football | 2020 Schedule

·        Regular season reduced from 10 to nine games with the season opener now scheduled for Sept. 12 at Doane.

·        Canceled Sept. 5 varsity game at Mayville State University (S.D.).

·        Canceled Sept. 7 JV game versus Midland.

Volleyball | 2020 Schedule

·        Canceled KCAC Fall Fling Tournament (Aug. 21-22).

·        Canceled Bulldog Bash (Aug. 28-29)

·        Bellevue Tournament is now TBA (potentially could occur on Sept. 5)

·        Moved match at Mount Marty from Aug. 26 to Oct. 2.

·        Moved match versus College of Saint Mary from Sept. 2 to Oct. 28.

·        NAIA National Tournament adjusted to a 48-team format with no opening round byes. All 48 teams will play in an opening round with the winners advancing to the final site in Sioux City, Iowa.

Men’s Soccer | 2020 Schedule

·        Reduced regular-season schedule to 14 games by eliminating scheduled contests with Tabor College (Aug. 26), York College (Sept. 1) and Friends University (Sept. 15).

·        NAIA National Tournament adjusted to a 40-team format with 10 opening round sites (four-team brackets at each site). The 10 winners from each site will advance to the final site in Irvine, Calif.

Women’s Soccer | 2020 Schedule

·        Reduced regular-season schedule to 14 games by eliminating scheduled contests with Tabor College (Aug. 26), York College (Sept. 1), Kansas Wesleyan University (Sept. 12) and Friends University (Sept. 15).

·        NAIA National Tournament adjusted to a 40-team format with 10 opening round sites (four-team brackets at each site). The 10 winners from each site will advance to the final site in Orange Beach, Ala.

Cross Country | 2020 Schedule

·        Canceled Augustana Twilight Meet that had been scheduled for Sept. 4.

·        Added Golden Prairie Opener hosted by Dordt on Sept. 5.
