SEWARD, Neb. – As voted upon at Tuesday (Nov. 6)’s Bulldog Athletic Association Member luncheon, senior Maria Deeter of the women’s soccer program and junior Carlos Ferrer of the men’s soccer program have been named the Bulldog Athletic Association Athletes of the Month of October 2018. Nominees for the monthly award are comprised of the Bulldog Athletic Association Athletes of the Week throughout that month. Recipients of the monthly awards will receive plaques from the athletic department.
Starting with the 2017-18 academic year, the Bulldog Athletic Association began naming male and female athletes of the month. Deeter and Ferrer are both first-time recipients of the monthly honor.
Deeter, a Seward native, has helped lead the Concordia women’s soccer program back to the GPAC tournament championship game for the fifth season in a row. During the month of October, the senior captain produced five goals, including a game winner and four assists over her seven games played. She was named the GPAC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 2 and 16. On the season to date, Deeter tops the Bulldogs with 14 goals (four game winners) while also adding six assists over 17 games. A three-time All-GPAC honoree, Deeter has piled up 37 goals and 27 assists in her 80 career games at Concordia.
Ferrer, who hails from Tijuana, Mexico, has starred as one of the top players all season for a Bulldog men’s soccer team that reached the GPAC semifinals. A second team All-GPAC choice in 2017, Ferrer finished the 2018 season with career highs for both goals (six) and assists (nine) while playing in 17 games. During the month of October, Ferrer totaled four goals and three assists over eight games in the process of leading his team to a 5-1-2 record during that stretch. Now a three-year starter, Ferrer has accumulated 15 goals and 16 assists over 59 career games at Concordia.
