SEWARD, Neb. – Concordia athletics has moved towards the top of the 2016-17 GPAC All-Sports Trophy Standings following the winter season. The Bulldogs were sixth after the fall sports season concluded. With 83.5 points, Concordia sits behind only Morningside (86.5) among the 11 GPAC institutions.

The Bulldogs climbed the ladder thanks to conference championships from head coach Andrew Nicola’s wrestling program and head coach Drew Olson’s women’s basketball program. Head coach Matt Beisel’s track and field squads also turned in solid finishes of second (men) and fourth (women) at the GPAC indoor track and field championships. The highest point total produced by Bulldog fall teams was nine by women’s soccer, which placed third in the regular season and then went on to capture the GPAC tournament title.

So far this academic year, Concordia teams have totaled five conference championships, including the postseason. Women’s basketball and wrestling won GPAC regular season and tournament championships, in addition to the trophy earned by women’s soccer.

Concordia has posted top-two GPAC All-Sports Trophy Standings finishes in each of the past two years. The Bulldogs took first place in 2014-15. Concordia also won all-sports championships in 2002-03 and 2004-05.

The final all-sports standings will be released by the GPAC after spring athletic teams complete their conference seasons. The sports yet to factor into the standings are baseball, men’s and women’s golf, softball, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s outdoor track and field.
