2017-18 GPAC All-Sports Standings

SEWARD, Neb. – After an unprecedented run of three-straight top two finishes in the GPAC All-Sports Trophy Standings, the Concordia University athletics department dropped to sixth at the close of the 2017-18 athletic year. The 21 Bulldog varsity athletic teams combined for 137 points in the standings that are based upon GPAC regular-season place finishes. Concordia has claimed the GPAC All-Sports Trophy three times in school history (2003, 2005, 2015).

Two Bulldog teams claimed GPAC regular-season titles in 2017-18: head coach Greg Henson’s women’s soccer program and head coach Drew Olson’s women’s basketball program. Olson’s standard setting squad also captured the GPAC tournament title. Additionally, head coach Jason Weides’ men’s soccer team finished second and third-place GPAC claims were made by head coach Patrick Daberkow’s football squad and head coach Matt Beisel’s women’s outdoor track and field group.

In terms of national success, All-American Philly Lammers and her women’s basketball teammates made waves with a run to the NAIA Division II national title game. In track and field, national champion Samantha Liermann and the women’s squad placed ninth at the indoor national championships and appear to have a strong chance of another top 10 placement at the NAIA outdoor championships later this month.

As of the close of the 2018 winter sports season, Concordia sat at No. 35 in the NAIA Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings. Bulldog athletics placed inside the top 20 of the Directors’ Cup Standings each of the previous three years (2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17). The Learfield Directors’ Cup awards points based on finishes at NAIA national championships.
