SEWARD, Neb. – Stars for two programs of national relevance, sophomore Taylor Cockerill of the women’s basketball program and senior Josiah McAllister of the men’s track and field program have been named the Bulldog Athletic Association Athletes of the Month of February 2019. Both Cockerill and McAllister were winners of voting that took place at the Bulldog Athletic Association Member Luncheon on Tuesday (March 19). Nominees for the monthly award are comprised of the Bulldog Athletic Association Athletes of the Week throughout that month. Recipients of the monthly awards will receive plaques from the athletic department.

Starting with the 2017-18 academic year, the Bulldog Athletic Association began naming male and female athletes of the month. Cockerill and McAllister have both earned the award for the first time. The delay in announcing February Athletes of the Month was due to spring break and then the cancelation of the scheduled luncheon on March 12.

Cockerill, who hails from Waverly, Neb., rose to stardom in her second season for the NAIA Division II national champion Bulldogs. She enjoyed a big month of February that saw her average 16.1 points, 2.75 steals and 2.3 rebounds and shoot 43.5 percent from the floor, 33.3 percent from 3-point range and 82.5 percent from the foul line over eight games. During that stretch, Concordia went 7-1. Cockerill earned first team All-GPAC and NAIA honorable mention All-America honors as part of an unforgettable campaign for the program. Her signature moments included a 40-point outing in the season opener and a 19-point fourth quarter in the national tournament second round win over No. 17 Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.). Cockerill was the team’s leading scorer in 2018-19 with an average of 15.4 points per game.

A native of Atkinson, Neb., McAllister completed his indoor career in style. The month of February featured the GPAC indoor championship meet, which culminated with a second place team finish for the Bulldog men. McAllister won the GPAC title in the 1,000 meters and placed second in the mile. During the remarkable month, McAllister also ran the anchor leg for the 4x800 meter relay that broke a Concordia Indoor Invite meet record with a time of 7:51.74. Additionally, McAllister clocked a personal best of 4:20.32 in the mile at the UNL Husker Invite on Feb. 2. He went on to claim indoor All-America honors in the 1,000 meters and for the 4x800 meter relay, helping the team to a ninth place national finish.
