Carley, Durdon voted October athletes of the month

SEWARD, Neb. – Starting with the 2017-18 academic year, the Bulldog Athletic Association began naming male and female athletes of the month. Nominees for the monthly award will be comprised of the Bulldog Athletic Association athletes of the week throughout that month. The athletes of the month for October were voted on by attendees at the Nov. 7 Athletic Association luncheon. Recipients of the monthly awards will receive plaques from the athletic department.

The Bulldog Athletic Association Athletes of the Month of October are sophomore Lindsey Carley of the women’s soccer program and sophomore Ryan Durdon of the football program.

Also the voted the Bulldog Athletic Association Female Athlete of the Month of September, Carley has enjoyed an impressive campaign as a first-year starting goalkeeper. During the month of October, Carley started six games and allowed just a single goal while making 23 saves. The native of Urbandale, Iowa, collected NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 24 and was also named a GPAC weekly award winner twice in October.

With Carley in goal, the GPAC regular-season champion Bulldogs surrendered only one goal during their entire 10-game conference season. A product of Johnston High School, Carley ranks ninth nationally in goals against average (0.530). She has totaled more than 1,350 minutes of action, has made 71 saves (.899 save percentage), owns six shutouts and a record of 12-1-3.

Durdon rampaged through the month of October, rushing for a combined 603 yards and five touchdowns as the Concordia football team earned wins over Midland, Dordt and Dakota Wesleyan. In the game against Midland, Durdon equaled a school record with 266 rushing yards to go along with four touchdowns. He was named the GPAC offensive player of the week on Oct. 16.

A Decatur, Texas, native, Durdon ranks sixth nationally in rushing yards per game (138.7) and has piled up a total of 1,248 rushing yards this season. He needs 18 more yards to surpass JaMaine Lewis’ program single-season record of 1,265 set in 2007. Durdon has amassed single-game rushing totals of 266, 208, 201, 192 and 136 while putting together one of the top seasons ever for a Bulldog running back. Concordia is now 6-3 overall and ranked 25th in the NAIA coaches’ poll.

Emily Deschaine (cross country) and Tarence Roby (football) were voted the Bulldog Athletic Association Athletes of the Week on Nov. 7 and will be among the candidates for the November monthly award.
