SEWARD, Neb. – Juniors Tara Callahan of the volleyball program and Lane Napier of the football program have been named the Bulldog Athletic Association Member (BAAM) Athletes of the Month of October 2019. The two standout student-athletes were winners of voting that took place at the BAAM luncheon on Tuesday (Nov. 5). Nominees for the monthly award are comprised of the BAAM Athletes of the Week throughout that month. Recipients of the monthly awards will receive plaques from the athletic department.
Starting with the 2017-18 academic year, the Bulldog Athletic Association Members began naming male and female athletes of the month.
Callahan, a native of Brady, Neb., has put together her best season yet while leading the Bulldogs to a 23-5 overall record and a No. 16 national ranking. During the month of October, Callahan was twice named the GPAC Setter of the Week and accumulated 324 assists, 53 digs, 23 blocks and 22 kills in eight matches (33 sets). The Concordia volleyball team went 6-2 in October. Her high for assists during the month of October was 51 in a four-set win over College of Saint Mary. On the season, Callahan has recorded 1,086 assists, 188 digs, 79 kills and 52 blocks in 101 sets. She ranks 11th nationally in assists per set (10.75).
Napier, who hails from David City, Neb., again led the Bulldogs in tackles this season. During the month of October, Napier notched 52 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, one interception and a forced fumble over four games. In the victory over Dakota Wesleyan on Oct. 12, he posted 12 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, a half of a sack and an interception and was named the GPAC Defensive Player of the Week. For the season, Napier racked up 108 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. His career totals now stand at 347 tackles, 31 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks and one interception. Napier was a 2018 Associated Press All-American and is a two-time first team All-GPAC choice.
