SEWARD, Neb. – For their performances throughout the calendar month, Bree Burtwistle and Carly Rodaway of the volleyball program and Korrell Koehlmoos of the program have been selected as the Bulldog Athletic Association Member (BAAM) Athletes of the Month for October 2022. Burtwistle, Rodaway and Koehlmoos were winners of a vote conducted on Tuesday (Nov. 8) at the BAAM luncheon. This marks the second month in a row that two volleyball student-athletes have shared the female athlete of the month award.

A native of Stanton, Neb., Burtwistle has effectively filled the role of setter for a Bulldog team currently ranked No. 4 in the NAIA coaches’ poll. In eight matches (27 sets) during the month of October, Burtwistle totaled 300 assists (11.11 per set), 72 digs, 20 kills, 14 aces and 72 digs. Burtwistle was named the GPAC and NAIA National Setter of the Week on Oct. 25 after spurring Concordia to straight sets wins over Doane and then 13th-ranked College of Saint Mary. On the season, Burtwistle has played in all 26 matches (88 sets) and is averaging 11.22 assists per set, which ranked four among all NAIA setters. She leads the way for an offensive attack that tops the nation in hitting percentage (.271).

Koehlmoos keeps adding to a season that ranks as the best ever for a Bulldog receiver. The Pilger, Neb., native and Lutheran High School Northeast alum tore it up during October when he hauled in 55 receptions for 563 yards and seven touchdowns over five games. Koehlmoos rose to the top of the program’s all-time career receptions list in the win over Jamestown on Oct. 8 and then set a new school standard for career receiving yards in the victory over Mount Marty on Oct. 15. In 2022 as a whole, Koehlmoos has broken program single season records for receptions (89), receiving yards (989) and receiving touchdowns (11 – tied with Jared Garcia). In 47 career collegiate games, Koehlmoos has caught 215 passes for 2,859 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also serves as the team’s punter.

Rodaway has been the beneficiary of Burtwistle’s work at setter. A Lincoln native and graduate of Pius X High School, Rodaway has shined on the right side in 2022 after earning Honorable Mention All-GPAC accolades last season. In October, Rodaway collected 80 kills (2.96 per set) and 12 blocks while hitting .315 in eight matches (27 sets). Overall this season, Rodaway has totaled 225 kills (2.56 per set) and 51 blocks and has hit .253. Rodaway came through in a big way in the five-set win over then No. 7 Northwestern on Oct. 15 when she notched 15 kills and four blocks and hit .433. Rodaway also turned in 14 kills in the four-set loss at No. 2 Jamestown on Oct. 7.
