· Notable: The first full weekend of outdoor action for Concordia Track & Field transpired this past Sunday as the Bulldogs competed at the Central Nebraska Challenge co-hosted by UNK and Hastings. Head Coach Matt Beisel’s squads competed with heavy hearts and wore special wings and ribbons to honor teammates involved in the recent tragic car accident that took the life of student-athlete Matthew Wing. The major highlights from the meet were two NAIA automatic national qualifying times achieved by national champion Adrianna Rodencal and four NAIA B standards courtesy of Nathan Baldwin (hammer and discus), Emry Gutz (javelin) and the women’s 4x100-meter relay. Rodencal currently ranks top two nationally in both hurdles events. In addition, freshman Avery Eaves came within .01 seconds of the school record in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 10.61 seconds. After posting an automatic national qualifying time in the 5,000-meter race walk a week earlier at the Viking Relays, Jonny ‘The Jet’ Jurchen took Sunday’s meet off. He was named GPAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week on March 25. The weather forecast prompted the Concordia Invite to be moved to next Monday, April 6. The meet schedule is linked below.

Both teams blanked Hastings, 7-0, while celebrating their seniors on back-to-back evenings. In the anticipated clash with the Mustangs (ranked 14th for men and 17th for women), the Concordia women were beaten 6-1 while the men fell by a 5-2 final score. One Bulldog was unbeaten on the week as Daniel Caballeros went 2-0 in both singles and doubles. In singles, Nick Velders kept his unbeaten record (15-0) intact. Velders won a tiebreaker in the first set in a push from his counterpart from Morningside at No. 2 singles. In the women’s matchup with Morningside (the rival Concordia took down in last season’s GPAC tournament title match), Nina Milic earned the team’s only point with a close win at No. 6 singles. · Notable: The Bulldogs played five games in a four-day stretch last week while finishing nonconference play and then ramping up GPAC action. Concordia ultimately went 1-4 with the lone win (3-1) coming in game two of the home opening doubleheader with Morningside. There were chances to sweep the Mustangs. In game one of the twin bill, Aubriana Krieser knotted it up, 2-2, with a solo homer to left. Morningside later scored two runs in the seventh in a 4-2 win for the visitors. In game two, the Bulldogs got just enough offense and won on the strength of a seven-inning complete game gem from freshman Kierstynn Linn (one run on four hits and two walks). Tobi Topp went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the victory. The next day, Concordia got an early 3-0 lead with the help of some sloppy Dakota Wesleyan defense, but everything went the Tigers’ way after the early outburst. DWU won by scores of 6-3 and 15-0. A positive for the week was the hitting of Krieser, who went 8-for-16 with a double, a home run and two RBIs. The Lincoln North Star alum has run her career hit total to 97. Through 25 games, three Bulldogs are hitting better than .350: Keira Farritor (.397), Mary Beth Hart (.396) and Krieser (.377). The weather forecast resulted in changes to the schedule. Concordia will be off this week before welcoming Hastings to Plum Creek Park on April 6.
