Ryann Johnson, a native of Sioux City, Iowa, studied oboe with William McMullen at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. After earning her Bachelor of Music Education, she taught band and choir in the public schools for three years. Johnson returned to UNL for a master’s degree in multiple woodwinds, studying oboe once again with Dr. McMullen, bassoon with Jeffrey McCray, saxophone with Paul Haar and clarinet with Diane Barger. She occasionally plays in Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra, substituting on the oboe, and works as a freelance musician in the area. She also teaches at Doane University and has an in-home private studio.
When she isn’t teaching college courses, she is a substitute teacher for the Beatrice public schools. In her free time, she enjoys coffee (with plenty of cream and honey), board games, hiking, camping and reading books of all kinds. Johnson resides in Beatrice with her husband Andrew, daughter Maya, son Langston and two cats who are slowly killing all her plants.
