Lisa Zaeva holds a B.A. in music education from Simpson University in Redding, California; a master's degree in vocal performance from California State University, Fresno; and a D.M.A. in vocal performance from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where she studied with Donna Harler-Smith.

Zaeva has taught at the College of the Sequoias in Visalia, California; California State University, Fresno; the University of Nebraska–Lincoln; Nebraska Wesleyan University; and lowa Western Community College. Her courses have included applied voice (including class voice), choir, music appreciation and a seminar on music and athletics. She has performed in operas, oratorios and concerts in addition to solo recitals.

Zaeva enjoys reading, cooking, running (slowly), cycling, gardening and studying nutrition. She and her husband tend a large vegetable and fruit garden at their home in Lincoln.
