It was a harrowing white-knuckler, but the work of Garrett Seagren and Noah Schutte was enough for the Bulldogs to pull one out of the fire. Schutte went past 1,000 career points as Concordia triumphed at Doane, 85-79.
A push for a top four GPAC finish will have to start at Doane on Wednesday. That will be the lone outing of the week for the Bulldogs (15-10, 9-8 GPAC), who are coming off a week that included a win over Midland and loss to Dordt.
In a game with many twists and turns, the Bulldogs saw an 11-point first half lead transition into an 11-point deficit late in the second half. Concordia rallied behind a season high 28 points from Gage Smith before coming up short of Dordt, 74-71.
A 15-0 blitz to open the game carried the Bulldogs to a breezy 91-63 win at Midland on Wednesday (Feb. 1). The trio of Brad Bennett, Noah Schutte and Garrett Seagren combined for 60 points and Gage Smith was just shy of a triple-double.
As a result of leading the Bulldogs to three wins last week, Noah Schutte has been recognized as the GPAC Player of the Week. The CIT MVP has garnered the award for the third time this 2022-23 season.
The high of winning the CIT carries the Bulldogs back into the stretch run of conference play. Concordia gained steam last week by winning three times at home. Now it looks forward to a road trip to Midland and a home game with Dordt.
In a frenzied Friedrich Arena, the Bulldogs prevailed over Concordia Wisconsin, 82-64, behind CIT MVP Noah Schutte. Contributions came from all directions over the two days as CUNE claimed the 29th CIT title in program history.
Zac Kulus emerged with a breakout game that featured five 3-point field goals in the final 10:20 of game time. His flurry buried visiting Concordia Chicago as the Bulldogs won, 89-70, in Friday (Jan. 27)'s final CIT game.
Noah Schutte celebrated his birthday on Wednesday (Jan. 25) by leading a steamrolling of Hastings, 80-42. Schutte outscored the Broncos by himself in the opening half on his way to a 23-point night for the Bulldogs (12-9, 8-7 GPAC).
The week of CIT will feature wall-to-wall basketball inside Friedrich Arena. On the men's side the Bulldogs will attempt to add to their 28 all-time CIT titles. First thing's first, CUNE will focus on Wednesday's GPAC matchup with Hastings.
