Sustainable Future

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
Matthew 28:19

Inspired by the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19), Bill Kernen, current member of the Weller Society for Leadership, current chair of the Concordia Foundation and former Concordia Board of Regents member, and his late wife Leona, developed a philosophy of giving that included five areas of focus:

  1. The Great Commission
  2. Education
  3. Social Welfare
  4. The Arts
  5. Community Efforts

When an organization within any of the last four areas embraces the Great Commission, it becomes a top priority on the list of organizations to support with their financial gifts.

When an organization within any of the last four areas embraces the Great Commission, it becomes a top priority on the list of organizations to support with their financial gifts.

Over the last 25 years, Kernen spent time with Concordia students, interacting with them and witnessing the positive impact of Concordia’s Lutheran, Christ-centered education that equips them for lives of learning, service and leadership in the church and world.

“Concordia students are here for more than just the education. They are here for the experience and the faith-based education that they receive. If they start doing things right in college, they’re going to do things right when they get out of college,” Bill says.

That’s why the Kernens have been faithful supporters of Concordia for decades. Bill remains a member of the university’s Weller Society for Leadership, a group of Concordia supporters who commit to giving at least $1,500 each year.

“Christian education comes with a price tag in the form of professors, teachers, mentors, administrators, facilities, equipment, technology, endowments, scholarship, etc. If we don’t help provide the needs of the university, the outcomes from the programs will begin to suffer. If we’re going to maintain a quality education that puts quality students into the world, we have to be supportive of the processes that get that done.”

Please join Bill in becoming a member of Concordia’s Weller Society for Leadership, giving students the education, experiences and tools they can use for the rest of their life as they learn, serve and lead in the church and world.
