M.A. School Counseling

When you join Concordia University, Nebraska’s School Counseling program, you’ll build on your talents and passion for guiding and counseling kids by developing the knowledge, abilities, skills and attitudes you need to implement and manage a successful school counseling program. 

With a master’s degree in School Counseling, you will: 

  • Become an expert in the design, implementation, delivery and assessment of school counseling programs. 
  • Provide academic, personal, social and emotional support to kids who need it most. 
  • Gain comprehensive school counseling experience through a supervised 100-hour practicum.  
  • Prepare for job market success by completing your digital portfolio as part of your capstone coursework.

Degree Goals

A graduate of Concordia University’s School Counseling master’s degree will be able to:   

  • Develop, implement, manage and evaluate comprehensive programs for PK–12 academic development, college and career readiness, and social and emotional development. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders one-on-one or in small groups to advocate and support students’ academic achievement; personal, social, and emotional development; and career development. 
  • Apply knowledge of educational systems, philosophies, and current trends in education to offer risk assessment and intervention strategies for a multitude of crises.

SCHOOL COUNSELOR 

  • Assist students with any school-related issues they have, including selecting classes, dealing with academic difficulties, and social problems.  
  • Help students develop academic goals and manage personal, social and behavioral issues.  

GUIDANCE COUNSELOR 

  • Guide children through academic, personal, parental and social pressures.  
  • Be a resource for students and help them reach their full potential by acting as an advocate for their mental health and educational advancement.
