I’m thankful for the connections and relationships I’ve made at Concordia and I know that no matter what happens next, I’ll be able to do something I love.

As a senior in high school, Joe Davis was the California state forensics champion in debate. He knew he wanted to continue to compete at the next level and chose to study business communications at York College, Nebraska, and accepted a position on the college’s first forensics team.

“The Nebraska collegiate circuit is very competitive and I was able to excel in the new program,” he says. “By my third year, I gained traction and made it to finals at the state tournament and qualified for nationals in five events.”

Following graduation, Joe wanted to further his education and the MBA program at Concordia appealed to him because he liked the flexibility of an online program. When he was offered a graduate assistantship to work with the forensics team, he was convinced. “I learn something new in every class that I can apply right away in coaching forensics students,” he says. “Everything from leadership and recruitment to marketing strategies I use every day.”

The Concordia forensics team has seen great success since Joe’s arrival having doubled participants, qualified for 12 events at national competition and broken several school records.

Joe is scheduled to graduate in August, and he hopes to continue working with the Concordia forensics team in some capacity. “I’m thankful for the connections and relationships I’ve made at Concordia and I know that no matter what happens next, I’ll be able to do something I love.”
