Shape Your Talents

I love theatre because it’s a way to express myself. My favorite part is creating the illusion of the world on the stage.

Elyssia Finch wasn’t even supposed to come to Concordia, Nebraska. She applied to a lot of different schools, just to see what would happen. “I had visited two different schools,” she says, “and I thought I was applying to one of them, but it turned out to be CUNE.”

Luckily, she decided to visit anyway. It was love at first sight. “I love the atmosphere here,” Elyssia says. “It’s great getting to know people. There’s less stress and chaos than in a big city.” The theatre, Spanish and secondary education major especially likes that she can hang out on the grass and people join her to chat or study. “It’s completely normal.”

After graduation, Elyssia wants to teach. In a perfect world, she would teach high school Spanish and drama. “I love theatre because it’s a way to express myself,” she says. “My favorite part is creating the illusion of the world on the stage." Concordia’s theatre program was the final tipping point for Elyssia when she was making her decision. “If you want to go to school for theatre, come to Concordia,” she says. “Get involved with the overall experience. We have improv, all the different shows, musicals and plays. You gain such a better understanding of how theatre works. It’s exciting.”
