Brendon Boomsma joined the Concordia University men’s basketball staff beginning with the 2018-19 season. Boomsma immediately transitioned from a collegiate playing career to a coaching career.
Boomsma played his college ball at Dakota State University, where he lettered all four years. He started for three years and served as team captain for two. Boomsma helped the Trojans win back-to-back North Star Athletic Association regular-season and tournament titles, resulting in two trips to the NAIA Division II national championships. He ended his career with all-time school rankings of third in made 3-point field goals and sixth in assists. Additionally, he earned four NSAA scholar athlete awards and was named a 2018 NSAA Champion of Character winner and a 2017 NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
While simultaneously starring on the court and in the classroom, Boomsma coached Sanford Pentagon Power Basketball Academy teams (2014-17) and directed workouts and camps for Pentagon and Sacred Hoops (2014-18).
A graduate of Tri-Valley High School, Boomsma garnered all-state and all-conference honors and was a South Dakota Mr. Basketball Finalist during his prep career. He also collected all-state accolades twice in golf.
Brendon is the son of Terry and Stacey Boomsma. His older brother Seth was a six-time All-American sprinter at Dakota State. Brendon graduated from Dakota State with a degree in exercise science. He is pursuing a masters in athletic administration from Concordia.
