Women's Soccer Coaching Staff
Rob Giesbrecht, head coach
Rob Giesbrecht is in his fifth year at the helm of the women’s soccer program at Concordia. Entering the 2009 season, Giesbrecht has a record of 29-40-3 with a 19-26-2 record in Great Plains Athletic Conference games.
A native of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Giesbrecht has degrees from the University of British Columbia, Trinity Western University and Concordia University. He was a member of the varsity soccer team at Trinity Western. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trinity Western University in 1996, a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of British Columbia in 1998 and a Masters of Education degree from Concordia University in 2008.
As a player at Trinity Western, Giesbrecht was a two-time conference all-star and the team’s MVP. He also holds a National Diploma from the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaching Association of America).
Giesbrecht has an impressive coaching resume that includes serving as an assistant coach for the women’s soccer program at Trinity Western from 1999-2005. In 2004, Trinity Western claimed the Canadian Interuniversity Sports National Championship. The CIS is the highest level of university athletics in Canada. He also served as head coach of the Fraser Valley Action Football Club, a women’s Pacific Coast Soccer League team. Giesbrecht has also coached at the high school level.
In addition to coaching, Giesbrecht has been the managing director for the Athletes in Action (AIA) Soccer Ministry since 2001, where he has been involved with international soccer tours to Ireland, Albania and Asia. He has also actively recruited student athletes for participation in AIA soccer projects. Coach Giesbrecht is also a Freshman Advisor/Career Advisor at Concordia University.
Rob and his wife Cheryl are the parents of four children - Sidney (4), Jacob (3), Josiah (3) and William (1) - and they reside in Seward.

Mike Borst, assistant coach
Mike Borst is in his first year as the goalkeeper coach for the women’s soccer team at Concordia.
Borst had an excellent collegiate soccer career at Concordia University, Irvine. Borst was a three-time All-Conference selection, and he was a two-time NAIA All-American. Borst was also named the top defensive player at the NAIA National Tournament.
Borst’s coaching experience includes serving as head goalkeeper coach for the Irvine Strikers Soccer Club. He also has experience as head goalkeeper coach at University High School in Irvine, CA.
Mike resides in Lincoln with his wife Stephanie.
Nick Holmes, assistant coach
Nick Holmes is in his second season as a graduate assistant coach with the Concordia University women's soccer team.
The native of Salisbury, England has a solid background in soccer. He lettered as a player for two years at Concordia and has coaching experience at the high school and collegiate levels. Besides his coaching duties at Concordia, Holmes also serves as the head coach for the Seward High School girl’s soccer team. He also spent time as an assistant coach at Seward High, and the Blue Jays set a school record for wins in a season in Holmes’ first year.
Holmes earned his bachelor’s degree in History from Concordia in 2009. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in Family Life also at Concordia. Nick and his wife Jennifer have a son, Andrew (8 months), and they reside in Seward.
