Daneen Kovar Theye, head coach

Daneen Kovar Theye enters her second year as head coach for the Concordia University Dance and Cheer teams in 2012-13. She will also serve as Concordia’s Athletics Business Coordinator. 

Kovar Theye received a B.F.A in Dance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) and was the recipient of the William and Anne Porter Award for Creativity in Dance in 1999. She has been dancing professionally since 1998 and has studied under many great teachers such as: Michael Simms, Lisa Fusillo, Lynne Nevin, Charlotte Adams, Julie Kane, Kelly Holcombe and Ann Shea. 

While studying at UNL, Kovar Theye was invited by the Tennessee Arts Commission to take part in a project developing a documentary based on the Orange Grove Dancers of Chattanooga and has since continued to travel to Chattanooga to work with the dancers. 

In Nebraska, Kovar Theye was a member of the Angels Company and one of the original members of the Family Project Dancers, founded and inspired by David Dorfman. In addition to coaching the Concordia Dance Team and Cheerleaders, she is currently in her 13th year of teaching jazz and tap at Shelly’s School of Dance in Seward.

Kovar Theye also earned the Academic Honors Award during her time at UNL. During her free time, Daneen enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.  Daneen and her husband Shaun reside in Seward.
