Originally, Head Coach Matt Beisel’s program had hoped to begin the outdoor season at the Viking Relays at Grand View University this past Saturday. That meet was canceled due to cold temperatures. In lieu of the Viking Relays, assistant coach Ed McLaughlin took a group of throwers to the Bethel Invite. Most significantly, five Bulldogs came away with automatic national qualifying marks: Matthew Boyer (javelin), Carson Fehlhafer (shot put), Abby Gerber (shot put), Darien Semedo (shot put) and Chris Wren (hammer throw). For her efforts, Gerber was named the GPAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.

Concordia is looking to build upon an indoor season that saw the women place first in the GPAC and third in the NAIA while the men finished third in the GPAC and eighth in the NAIA. Fifteen Bulldogs emerged from the indoor national meet with All-America honors in one or more events. Most impressively, the women’s 4x800 meter relay squad and pole vaulter Zach Zohner came away with NAIA national titles. During the indoor season, new school records came via the women’s 4x8 (9:06.48), Kylahn Freiberg in the 3,000 meters (10:05.72), Rylee Haecker in the 1,000 meters (2:52.88) and Adrianna Rodencal in the 60-meter hurdles (8.55).
