Four Bulldog multi-event athletes officially named national qualifiers

Men’s decathlon qualifiers | Women’s heptathlon qualifiers

Four Bulldog athletes have officially been announced as qualifiers for the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships. In the men’s decathlon, both sophomore Brandon Ramos and freshman Lucas Wiechman have qualified for nationals. In the women’s heptathlon, both senior Lydia Pomerenke and junior Sara Simmons have earned berths onto the national stage.

Simmons (Sumner, Neb.) ranks fifth nationally in the heptathlon with her school record total of 4,617 points. Pomerenke (Seward, Neb.) sits seventh in the NAIA with 4,556 points.

In the decathlon, Wiechman (Pilger, Neb.) ranks 15th nationally with 6,034 points. Ramos (Kihei, Hawaii) rests in 16th place with 5,957 points.

The rest of the national qualifiers will be announced later this week by the NAIA. The outdoor national championships will be held May 22-24 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
