Women's team mirror men, sweep Briar Cliff 9-0, fall to Morningside, 5-4
The Concordia University, Nebraska, women's tennis matched the scores of their male counterparts with a 9-0 win over Briar Cliff, then dropped a tough match to Morningside, 5-4, on Saturday, April 21 in Omaha, Neb.
Following Saturday's action the Bulldogs moved to 5-7 on the season and 1-2 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play.
Concordia 9, Briar Cliff 0
Led by a 6-1, 6-0 win at the top singles position from sophomore Katelyn Koll (Wilber, Neb.) over Olivia Hull, the Bulldogs posted straight set wins in every match.
Freshman Grace Hollenbeck (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) matched Koll's effort with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Shelby Stofferan at the No. 5 spot.
Hollenbeck teamed with junior Mikaela Barz (San Antonio, Tex.) for an 8-1 win at the second doubles slot over Briar Cliff's Lauren Laferla and Grace McElro. Koll, meanwhile, teamed with junior Lindsea Vaudt (Kalispell, Mon.) for an 8-1 win over Olivia Hull and Sarah Cooke,
Morningside 5, Concordia 4
Concordia took a 2-1 lead in doubles play as the Bulldogs' top two teams continued to shine. Koll and Vaudt downed Audri Swisher and Amanda Przymus, 8-4, while Hollenbeck and Barz defeated the Mustangs' Mary Horton and Shannon Schroeder, 8-6.
Koll and Hollenbeck earned their second consecutive straight set victories to put the Bulldogs one win away from taking the match. Koll downed Swisher 6-3, 6-2, while Hollenbeck defeated Kassie Hein, 6-2, 6-3. Unfortunately Concordia stumbled in remaining four singles matches.
Concordia returns to action on Monday, April 23 as the Bulldogs travel to Crete, Neb. for a GPAC match against Doane College.
