Esquivel reels in GPAC player of the week honors

SEWARD, Neb. – Concordia freshman Patricio Esquivel went a combined 5-1 last week in singles/doubles, helping him earn GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men’s Tennis Player of the Week recognition. The honor, announced by the GPAC on Wednesday, is the first career collegiate honor for Esquivel.

The native of Morelia, Mexico, went 2-1 in singles last week, earning wins over Doane’s Nick Hamilton (6-1, 6-1) and Midland’s Logan Meisinger (6-4, 6-1). He also combined with teammate Javier Moreno, another Morelia native, on a 3-0 record at No. 2 doubles.

On the season, Esquivel is 4-2 overall (3-2 at No. 3, 1-0 at No. 5) in singles action. He and Moreno are 5-1 (best on the team) in doubles play.

The Bulldogs (5-1, 2-0 GPAC) are in action today (April 1) at Bethel College in North Newton, Kan.
