Bulldog tennis opens fall season

SEWARD, Neb. – The Concordia women’s tennis team opened the fall season at home in a dual with Fort Hays State University. The Tigers, who just came off a 5-4 win at Doane earlier Friday, topped the Bulldogs, 7-2.

In doubles play, Annie Horn and Anna Kinney were defeated by 1-8. The second double team was made up of Katelinn Wurm and Kayla Smock who lost, 5-8. Hannah Boe and Amanda VonSeggern also were downed, 8-2.

Alison Ebel topped her opponent 6-2, 6-3 in the singles. Wurm also edged her foe 6-0, 3-2. Horn was defeated 0-6, 1-6 while Kenney was beat 0-6, 2-6. Kayla Smock was bested 0-6, 0-6. Boe was topped 3-6, 0-6.

The men opened the season with a scrimmage tournament vs Nebraska Wesleyan University. Guillermo Pardos left the day undefeated while Javier Moreno and Gabe Poling finished the doubles tournament undefeated. Moreno also reached the quarter finals of the tournament.

Fort Hays State improves to 4-3 on the season while Concordia is handed its first loss, making its record 0-1.

The Bulldog Tennis squad will resume play on Oct. 3 when the women travel to Doane College for a tournament starting at 10 a.m. The men will also go to Doane to play in a tournament on Oct. 10 with a 10 a.m. start time.
