Concordia downed by Northwood, 5-0

The Concordia University, Nebraska, baseball squad suffered a 5-0 defeat by the Northwood Timberwolves of NCAA Division II on Saturday, March 17.

The loss dropped Concordia to 12-10 on the season, while Northwood moved to 9-1.

The Concordia offense struggled against Northwood's Jordan Snider, managing just six hits over seven innings.  The best scoring chances came in the second and third innings as Concordia got back-to-back hits, but base running missteps hurt the Bulldogs.

With one out in the second, junior Ray Finley (Tucson, Ariz.) reached on an infield single with one out, then senior Tate Bedwell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) chased Finley to third on a single to left-center.  Unfortunately Bedwell was picked off first moments later, then senior Anthony Flores (Craig, Colo.) flew out to left to end the inning.

The third inning saw junior Kyle Ivanoff (Tucson, Ariz.) lead off with a double to right, then senior Josh Nance (Brighton, Colo.) put runners at the corners with an infield single.  Senior Zak Goodrich (Lutz, Fla.) loaded the bases by reaching on a fielder's choice, but Ivanoff was picked off third on the next pitch and the Bulldogs were unable to score.

Snider's seven innings of work earned him the victory (2-0), while Concordia junior Jordan Stirtz (Gretna, Neb.) allowed four runs on eight hits to drop to 1-4 with the loss.

Concordia returns to action on Saturday, March 24 as the Bulldogs open their home schedule with a doubleheader against Valley City State University at 1 p.m.
