Deutschman concludes Concordia career at GPAC Qualifier
LINCOLN, Neb. – After shooting a disappointing 415 at GPAC Qualifier No. 1 on Sept. 11, the Bulldogs rebounded by carding a 392 at GPAC Qualifier No. 2 at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course on Wednesday. Concordia’s combined total of 807 positions it in 11th place to cap the spring season.
Standout Concordia senior Makenzie Deutschman, playing in her final meet as a Bulldog, posted a 95 at the par-71 course to conclude her collegiate golf career. The performance was one stroke better than the North Platte, Neb., native’s score from Sept. 11, but was 13 strokes higher than her most recent 18-hole outing at Wilderness Ridge.
“I think she put a little extra pressure on herself today,” head coach Brett Muller said of Deutschman’s Wednesday effort. “She really wanted to shoot a low score.
“The last year-and-a-half Makenzie has been a team captain and the leader of the team. Her work ethic will be greatly missed. She should be proud of what she has accomplished in her time at Concordia.”
Duetschman, who will student teach this coming spring, had carded the Bulldogs’ lowest score at each event this season until Wednesday when senior teammate Chelsea Peck notched a 92. Following the senior duo was the trio of Melissa McIntosh (102), Janelle Hallaert (103) and Madison Phillips (108).
“Chelsea’s back nine holes were the best she’s had all year with a 42,” Muller said. “Her scores this year have not painted a clear picture of her high level of play so far this season.”
Duetschman finishes her final season with an 18-hole average of 88.4. Peck, who will compete in the spring season, concluded the fall with an average of 93.3.
Just like GPAC Qualifier No. 1, Dakota Wesleyan enjoyed the best round. The Tigers, led by top individual finisher Lauren Fitts, posted a 333 on Wednesday after a 352 on Sept. 11. Dakota Wesleyan increased its lead to 29 over second-place Northwestern after the first two GPAC meets.
The Bulldogs will pick play back up in the spring of 2013. Two more GPAC Qualifier events will be held in the spring.
