SEWARD, Neb. – Concordia University, Nebraska will host the 62nd annual Concordia Invitational Tournament (CIT) Jan. 25-26. The tournament will feature, in addition to the host school, the Concordias of Ann Arbor, Mich., Mequon, Wis., and River Forest, Ill., competing in both men's and women's basketball. CIT is one of the longest running tournaments in the country having begun in 1951 with the men’s tournament.

“CIT is an awesome event. The atmosphere is unmatched,” Bulldog head women’s basketball coach Drew Olson said. “Fans travel for miles to be there and the bands from all four schools are there. It’s just what college athletics should be all the time. There is just this automatic healthy, rivalry when you bring these Concordia schools together. Every year it is a fantastic tournament that the teams will always remember.”

Concordia (Neb.) is the CIT all-time leader in wins and tournament titles for both men and women. The Bulldog men boast a mark of 75-47 with 24 CIT titles. Meanwhile, the Concordia (Neb.) women have compiled an all-time record of 61-17 with 23 CIT championships. Both Bulldog squads are coming off CIT championships in 2012 when the event was hosted by Concordia-Chicago.

Since its inception, the Concordia Invitational Tournament has become known as more than just a basketball tournament. The event has grown to become a celebration of like-minded institutions that share a commitment to faith.

“CIT is an opportunity for the students at the four schools to build a relationship with each other through competition and fellowship,” Bulldog head men’s basketball coach Marty Kohlwey said. “Many of the people you meet or play against will be your coworkers in the future. It also brings together the administration, faculty and staff of the institutions for a kind of celebration of what the word Concordia really means.”
