High School Boys & Girls Basketball

Concordia University Nebraska hosted its second annual Lutheran Invitational Tournament for high schools Jan. 6-7.  The boys and girls teams of the four LCMS high schools in Nebraska were represented:

Tournament results

Jan. 2012: The girls team from Concordia Omaha earned an LIT championship with victories over Lincoln Lutheran in round one and over Lutheran Northeast in the final. In the boys bracket, Lutheran Northeast defeated Concordia Omaha in the first round and Heartland Lutheran in the finals in order to claim the trophy. The boys and girls teams from Lincoln Lutheran won both of the consolation brackets.

Tickets

LIT tickets may be purchased at the door for one-day admission. Ticket prices are $6 for adults and $4 for students (K-12). (There will be no individual game ticket prices.) Doors will open 45 minutes before the start of the first game on each day.

Initial tournament pairings

The tournament brackets were determined by using the NSAA Point Leader Rankings for the third week of December. 

Spectators  

Spectators are encouraged to sit in the following areas as their respective game commences. Please note that coolers of food or beverages should not be brought into the Walz facility. The proceeds from the concession stand benefit the future development of Bulldog Athletics. 

Home team

  • Cheerleaders will be located on the east baseline adjacent to the home team bench
  • Band will be located in the southeast bleachers that curve around the east baseline
  • Fans will sit in the north bleachers behind the scorers table

Visiting team

  • Cheerleaders located on the west baseline 
  • Band will be located in the far west sections of the south bleachers across the court from the scorers table
  • Fans will sit in the north bleachers behind the visiting team bench.

Friday, Jan. 6

  • 2:20 p.m. - Opening devotion in the arena
  • 3 p.m. - Girls game: Northeast (1) vs Heartland (4)
  • 4:45 p.m. - Boys game: Northeast (1) vs Concordia (4)
  • 6:30 p.m. - Girls game: Concordia (2) vs Lincoln (3)
  • 8:15 p.m. - Boys game: Heartland (2) vs Lincoln (3)

Saturday, Jan. 7

  • 9 a.m. - Girls consolation game
  • 10:45 a.m. - Boys consolation game
  • 12:30 p.m. - Girls championship game
  • 2:15 p.m. - Boys championship game (half-time: all-school dance routine)
  • 4 p.m. - Traveling trophy presentation; all-tourney teams announced; closing message & doxology

Post-tournament games

  • 5 p.m. - Concordia University vs. Dordt College Women  
  • 7 p.m. - Concordia University vs. Dordt College Men        

Once you've made it to Seward

All games will be played at Concordia's Walz Human Performance Complex, which is located on the northern edge (E. Hillcrest Dr. & Sunrise Dr.) of campus.
