Ryann Johnson, a native of Sioux City, Iowa, studied oboe under the tutelage of William McMullen at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. After earning her B.M.E., she taught band and choir in the public schools for three years. She returned to UNL for a master’s degree in multiple woodwinds, where she studied oboe with William McMullen, bassoon with Jeffrey McCray, saxophone with Paul Haar, and clarinet with Diane Barger. She occasionally plays in Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra as substitute oboe. She recently supervised high school students on two music tours through Europe as a staff member of Nebraska Ambassadors of Music. In addition to Concordia, she also teaches oboe, bassoon and woodwind methods at Doane College.
When she isn’t teaching, Johnson works in her church office in Lincoln. She resides in Elmwood with her husband Andrew, daughter Maya, and two cats.
