John("Jack") Kinworthy has taught in the Social Science Department since 1969. He is a professor of geography and the Earth sciences, and has taught all of the geography offerings that Concordia offers. He has also taught the two introductory economics courses in the department. Prior to his service at Concordia, he taught for several years at Lutheran High School North in St. Louis. In addition, he has two years of teaching experience at elementary schools in California and Chicago.

Kinworthy was awarded the Distinguished Teaching Award for college and university instructors at the National Convention of the NCGE-National Council of Geographic Education in October 2002, held in Philadelphia. He is a member of the Association of American Geographers and the National Council of Geographic Education.
