Profile

A native of Omaha, Betsy Bobenhouse has been flute instructor and director of the Flute Ensemble at Concordia since 2001. She completed her Master of Music degree in 2001 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she was a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda music honor society. She maintains a private studio in Lincoln and teaches young students according to the Suzuki method. Her students consistently receive high marks at local and state contests and frequently win positions in honor bands and orchestras. In her teaching, she is committed to the application of music theory, the development of strong technique, and the mechanics of an excellent sound.

Bobenhouse is active as a performer in large and small ensembles, performing with the Nebraska Symphony Chamber Orchestra, the Lincoln Municipal Band, and the Lincoln Light Opera. She is also flutist with the New Music Agency, a chamber music organization devoted to music of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. In 1999, she formed the Duo Primo with classical guitarist Rusty Banks. The duo has premiered and recorded a number of new compositions. In 2006, Bobenhouse and harpist Heidi Huenefeld formed the Duo Adanté.

Bobenhouse is an experienced dressage rider and trains daily with her Holsteiner gelding Lyricon. She lives in Lincoln with her neurologist husband Jim; they have one son, Neil, who is in graduate school in St. Louis.
