The general education component of all programs
Within the hours required for graduation each student completes a program of 44 hours of general education. This component of Concordia’s curricula is a basic liberal education that seeks to broaden and develop people who are socially and religiously sensitive, who see the interrelatedness of learning between the disciplines, who are culturally aware, physically and intellectually rounded and more capable of coping with the demands of life.
English-Communication-Theatre Arts Requirements - 6 hours ECTA-104 (3 hours), Eng-201 (3 hours).
All freshmen are encouraged to take ECTA-104, a course designed specifically for freshmen to develop oral and written communication skills. Freshmen whose basic English language skills are weak may attend special tutoring sessions along with ECTA-104.
Social Science Requirements - 9 hours
History (3 hours)
Select one of the following:
Hist-115, Hist-131, or Hist-132.
Social Sciences (6 hours)
Course work from two of the following areas: economics, geography, political science, sociology and psychology.
Courses selected from: Econ-101 or 102, Geog-101 or 102, PS-111, Psy-101, Soc-101.
Mathematics Requirement - 3 hours
Students take one course determined by the mathematics department on the basis of incoming competence, selected from: Math-132, 142, 151, 175, 182, 184, 186, 201, 222, 252, 284. Elementary Education students take Math 201 unless completing Math 182 or higher.
Science Requirements - 6 hours
The goal of the general education science requirement is to provide exposure to the major disciplines of science. Students must complete at least one course each in biology, chemistry and physics between high school and college. Students who have taken courses in two or more of the above areas in high school may take coursework in space, earth or other sciences. (Biology courses in italics should only be considered for those with a strong biology background or those entering a biology program):

Fine Arts Requirements - 3 hours
Art: Art-101, 203, 260. Elementary education students are required to take Art 101 unless they have art concentrations.
Drama: CTA-151, 152, 154, 231, 299.
Music: Mu-101, 232, 233, 236, 237, 241, 242, 244, 245, 246, 247; any applied music course (which may be repeated for additional credit).
Health and Human Performance Requirements - 2 hours
(All courses are open to both men and women.)
HHP-100; Choose one hour from among the following (swimming can be used only once): HHP-111, 112, 116, 117, 118, 132, 135, 142,144, 146, 147, 148, 149, 152, 153, 154, 155, 156, 157, 158, 162, 164, 166, 168, 171, 172, 173, 174, 175, 176, 177, 182, 281, 282, 283, 284, 285, 286, 287 and 288.
Theology Requirements - 6 hours

General Studies - 9 hours
GS-101 required during the freshman year. (Waived for students entering with 24 or more hours earned as a full-time college student.)
GS-201 required during the sophomore year.
GS-301 required during the junior year.
GS-401/Theo 489 required during the senior year.
