Those interested in learning more about advanced degrees through Concordia had the chance to meet current students and program directors at an open house Tuesday, April 17, at the university’s campus in northwest Lincoln.

About 150 alumni and supporters and 70 students, faculty and staff of Concordia gathered on Saturday, March 24 for the annual Donor Thank You Celebration. The highpoint of the event was the recognition of Dr. Rupert Dunklau. Dunklau received the Sower Award, Concordia’s premier philanthropic award.

Three Concordia art students have received special recognition for their work. Crystal Bauer’s video was selected as part of the Little Waves Show exhibit. Kaylie Mellema and Jessica Wagner will have photographs featured in Nikon USA’s publication Best of College and High School Photography 2012.

Concordia students and faculty once again took part in Brain Awareness Week, sponsored by The Dana Foundation, a private organization that supports brain research. Brain Awareness Week (BAW) is the global campaign to increase public awareness of the progress and benefits of brain research. Although the official dates for the celebration are March 12-18, Concordia scheduled activities for March 5-11 because of spring break.

Concordia’s premier vocal ensemble, the University A Cappella Choir, began its annual spring tour on Friday, March 9. The 70-member choir performed 10 concerts at schools and churches in Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas.

The University Symphonic Band from Concordia crossed the upper Midwest on a five-day tour Feb. 29-Mar. 4. The band began its tour in Nebraska and stopped in South Dakota and Minnesota.

Concordia hosted the tenth annual Career and Graduate Fair Feb. 23. The event was a collaboration between Concordia’s career services and the Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) organization. Almost 40 vendors and over 140 students participated in this year’s fair.

The skies were on display for stargazers as Concordia’s Osten Observatory hosted its annual spring open house. The observatory was open to the public in the evenings March 25 - 29.

Twenty-four hours of laughter ensued as Concordia’s IMPROVables comedy troupe took the stage for its third annual Improv-a-thon March 23-24. The event raised over $1,000 to purchase a communication device for Michael Westerhoff, a Seward resident with autism.

Lucy Bennett, owner of The Bakery in downtown Seward, Neb., was honored with the Outstanding Woman in Business award at a Concordia luncheon on Wednesday, Feb. 15. This ninth-annual event recognized the achievements of female business professionals in the greater Seward community. The luncheon is sponsored by Concordia’s Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) organization and Concordia Foundation, Nebraska.

The Concordia Chamber Choir concluded its tour of the West Coast with a home concert on Sunday, Feb. 19, at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. The program featured several pieces composed by Concordia faculty and audience participation.
