The Lutheran Education Association (LEA) recently recognized seven Concordia alumni with individual awards.

Concordia Professor of Music Dr. Kurt von Kampen was recently named the 2012 Outstanding Choral Director of the Year by the Nebraska Choral Directors Association.

The Concordia art department hosted faculty exhibition in the Marxhausen Gallery of Art. The exhibit opened Feb. 17 and ran through April 5.

Ninety-two undergraduate and graduate degrees were awarded in December at Concordia University, Nebraska.

A group of 14 students recently returned from the 20th Annual London and Europe Study Tour Dec. 16-Jan. 12. Led by Dr. Daniel Thurber, professor of English at Concordia, the tour visited London, England, and several other European cities to explore historical and literary sites.

Improv antics are back! Concordia’s IMPROVables comedy troupe performed on Friday, Feb. 1. The group staged two shows in the Thom Leadership Education Center auditorium.

Concordia’s Chamber Choir performed a home concert on Sunday, Feb. 17, at St. John Lutheran Church after its five-day annual tour to Arizona.

Concordia’s Chamber Choir visited Arizona for a five-day tour Jan. 31-Feb. 3. The choir performed eight concerts in four cities including Scottsdale, Tucson, Apache Junction and Phoenix, Ariz.

“King Kong: The Puppet Show,” a comedic one-act retelling of the classic 1933 movie, was performed in the Studio Theater on the campus of Concordia on Friday, Jan. 18.

Concordia hosted “ISMS: Concordia's Permanent Collection in Context” in the Marxhausen Gallery of Art from Jan. 14 to Feb. 15. An opening reception was held Sunday, Jan. 27, with an exhibit talk in Thom Leadership Education Center auditorium.

Rev. James L. Brooks spoke at Concordia in honor of Martin Luther King Day on Monday, Jan. 21. Brooks’ presentation, “The Eight Key Components of Christian Community Development," was given in the Weller Hall auditorium.

Seven students from Concordia University, Nebraska’s global and multi-cultural studies class recently completed a mission trip to Latvia Nov. 17-24. The group’s goal was to encourage Latvians in the Christian faith and to learn about the country’s culture.

Concordia University, Nebraska’s computer science department sent two teams to the ACM North America North Central Regional Programming Contest, held Nov. 3 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Contest sites were spread across the region for contestants to participate.

Dr. Molly Fitzke, director of the RSN to BSN program at Concordia, was selected to the National League for Nursing Leadership Program. The year-long program is designed to allow nursing educators to explore different aspects of nursing education.

Concordia inducted nine students into Phi Epsilon Kappa, a health and human performance honor society, during a ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 4.

Senior art education major Anna Meyer displayed her Bachelor of Fine Art thesis work at Concordia. Meyer’s art show opened Dec. 2 remained in the Marxhausen Gallery of Art until Dec. 17.

Four of Concordia’s music ensembles performed throughout the month of December. Jazz, classical and Christmas music was shared through both vocal and instrumental concerts.

The University Symphonic Band at Concordia was selected to perform at the 2012 Nebraska Music Educators Association (NMEA) conference Nov. 14-16.

Five Seward homes opened their doors to guests as part of the 18th annual Scholarship Parade of Homes on Sunday, Dec. 9. The event, sponsored by Concordia and Jones National Bank, raised scholarship dollars for Seward County high school seniors attending Concordia University in Seward or Southeast Community College in Milford.

Concordia commemorated Founders Day on Friday, Nov. 16. The day honored the founding of Concordia through a special chapel service and alumni reception. The guest speaker for the service was Rev. Micah Gaunt of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ravenna, Neb.
