Concordia student Grace Hollenbeck earned the Best of Show award 2013 O’Keefe Elevator Company Art Show in Omaha, Neb., on April 11. Hollenbeck is a sophomore in Concordia’s art education program. Five other Concordia students also were honored at the show.

The Concordia University A Cappella Choir recently returned from a six-day tour of the Midwest. The choir will give two home concerts to close the tour on Sunday, April 21. The first concert will be at 3 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, located at 4325 Sumner St. in Lincoln, Neb. The final performance will begin at 7 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward, located at 919 North Columbia Ave.

Concordia will host the dedication of a new ChargePoint electric vehicle charging station on its campus northeast of the Walz Athletic Fieldhouse on East Hillcrest Drive, on Monday, April 22, at approximately 11:15 a.m.

On Saturday, April 6, nearly 1,500 elementary school students participated in the 69th Gathering of the Talents festival held at Concordia. Participants came from 58 schools in Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas and South Dakota to share their talents in five artistic divisions: visual art, creative writing, drama, dance and music.

Artwork by 62 Concordia students is currently on display in the Marxhausen Gallery of Art on the Concordia campus. Student art honors and scholarships were also announced at the exhibit’s opening reception April 7. The show will run through Friday, April 19, and is open to the public, free of charge.

Concordia University, Nebraska presented Gerald and Vera Rapp of St. Louis, Mo., with the Sower Award at Concordia University’s annual Donor Day celebration on March 23, 2013. The Sower Award is awarded “for prolonged and significant service or giving to Concordia University, Nebraska” and is recognized as Concordia’s premier philanthropic award.

The work of four high school artists became part of Concordia’s permanent art collection after being selected for purchase prizes during the Juried High School Art Show hosted by Concordia’s art department on March 22.

Concordia’s premier vocal ensemble, the University A Cappella Choir, will begin its annual spring tour on Thursday, April 10. The 73-member choir has scheduled performances at schools and churches in Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois. All concerts are free and open to the public.

Lou Anne Mueri, co-owner of Mueri Drug in downtown in Seward, Neb., was honored with the Outstanding Woman in Business award at a Concordia luncheon on Friday, March 1. This 10th annual event recognized the achievements of female business professionals in the greater Seward community. Recipients of the award from the past nine years were also recognized.

High school students were invited to get creative at Concordia's Experience Art Day on Friday, March 22, and Saturday, March 23. Participants had the opportunity to explore Concordia’s art department and take lessons from art professors.

The Moon, Jupiter and the Great Orion Nebula were the focus of a five-night open house at Concordia’s Osten Observatory. The observatory opened from 8 to 9:30 p.m. March 17-21.

The classic American stage comedy, "Arsenic and Old Lace," was presented this spring at Concordia. The play opened Friday, March 1 and ran through Sunday, March 3. All three performances were given in the Studio Theater, located on the lower level of the Music Center.

Musician Paul Kenyon visited Concordia to give a piano recital titled “Benedictions: The final piano works of Mozart, Brahms, Debussy and Prokofiev" on Tuesday, March 5, in the Music Center’s recital hall.
