Concordia A Cappella Choir concludes 75th anniversary tour with concerts in Lincoln and Seward

Traveling in the U.S. Southwest, Concordia's A Cappella Choir concluded its 75th anniversary tour with two local concerts March 23 at Christ Lutheran Church in Lincoln and St. John Lutheran Church in Seward.

Both concerts included notable selections from the A Cappella Choir’s history. The choir performed two songs by Concordia Nebraska Professor of Music Dr. Kurt von Kampen, the current conductor and only the fourth conductor in the choir’s 75-year history. Former members of the A Cappella Choir were also acknowledged during the concert.

The internationally acclaimed choir performed in Nebraska a week after returning from its 11-day tour of the Southwest United States March 6-16. The tour included performances at 10 churches and schools in Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, California and Nevada. Choir members performed full-length concerts, high school assemblies and church worship services in addition to spending time with a variety of host families throughout the tour.

The A Cappella Choir tours the U.S. each year. The choir has also toured every four years internationally since 1961, performing in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Mexico. It also competed in choral competitions in Australia and Austria while under the direction of von Kampen.

Von Kampen earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Concordia University, Nebraska, a master’s degree in choral conducting from Oakland University and a doctorate in choral music education from the University of Nebraska.
