Twenty-two students in the Concordia art department received scholarship endowments as part of Concordia’s annual student art show. The show opened March 30 in the Marxhausen Gallery of Art. The show features work by dozens of student artists and will remain on display through April 11.

The best of Concordia student artwork was recognized at a Sunday, March 30, awards presentation at Marxhausen Gallery. The gallery exhibit, located within Jesse Hall on Concordia’s campus, will remain open through April 11.

The art department at Concordia invites elementary students to participate in Saturday morning art sessions. The sessions encourage youth in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade to learn about and create art.

Dancer and performance artist Flora Wiegmann presented a video collection of her work titled “Onset” in the Marxhausen Gallery of Art at Concordia on Sunday, Feb. 23. The gallery also features the work of Brooklyn’s Simone Duff, an artist and production designer.

Music, art and fine cuisine were on the menu for the First Friday concert series and art exhibition at Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Lincoln. Students from Concordia performed on the organ and displayed original artwork as part of the series after lunch on Friday, Feb. 7.

The works of 20 acclaimed photographers made up the “Pure Photography: Pictorial and modern photographs” exhibit on display in the Marxhausen Gallery of Art at Concordia in February. A gallery talk featured Larry Gawel, photography instructor and program coordinator at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, Neb.

“What the Void Can Hold,” an art exhibition in Concordia’s Marxhausen Gallery, opened Nov. 3. An opening reception for the exhibition was held Nov. 10, with a gallery talk by Alex Priest at in the Thom Leadership Education Center auditorium. Priest was guest curator of the show and serves as the exhibition assistant at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art in Omaha, Neb. The exhibit ran through Dec. 18.

Joshua Smith, a member of Concordia’s Department of Art, presented his first faculty art exhibition this fall. The exhibit, titled “Traces of Place: Recent Sculpture by Joshua Ray Smith,” was open throughout the month of October.
