Concordia University, Nebraska’s computer science department sent two teams to the ACM North America North Central Regional Programming Contest, held Nov. 3 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Contest sites were spread across the region for contestants to participate.

Dr. Molly Fitzke, director of the RSN to BSN program at Concordia, was selected to the National League for Nursing Leadership Program. The year-long program is designed to allow nursing educators to explore different aspects of nursing education.

Senior art education major Anna Meyer displayed her Bachelor of Fine Art thesis work at Concordia. Meyer’s art show opened Dec. 2 remained in the Marxhausen Gallery of Art until Dec. 17.

Five Seward homes opened their doors to guests as part of the 18th annual Scholarship Parade of Homes on Sunday, Dec. 9. The event, sponsored by Concordia and Jones National Bank, raised scholarship dollars for Seward County high school seniors attending Concordia University in Seward or Southeast Community College in Milford.

Concordia commemorated Founders Day on Friday, Nov. 16. The day honored the founding of Concordia through a special chapel service and alumni reception. The guest speaker for the service was Rev. Micah Gaunt of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ravenna, Neb.

The theatre department at Concordia presented “Into the Woods,” a musical production depicting troubled fairy tale creatures, based on the works of the Brothers Grimm. The musical was performed during the first two weekends of November in the Weller Hall Auditorium.

Award-winning nature photographer and former NEBRASKAland magazine writer Michael Forsberg spoke at Concordia on Tuesday, Nov. 13, in the Weller Hall Auditorium. His presentation, titled “Pulse of the Plains,” was open to the public.

High school students from across the country performed in an honor choir and honor band as part of Musical Arts Day, Friday, Oct. 26, on the Concordia campus. The day ended with a concert in the Walz Human Performance Complex arena.

U.S. Senate candidates Bob Kerrey and Deb Fischer visited Concordia Oct. 23 and 24. Both candidates spoke about current political issues, answered questions and met with students, faculty and the public.

Concordia’s improvisational comedy troupe, The IMPROVables, gave its second performance of the fall semester on Friday, Nov. 30. Two shows were held in the Music Center’s studio theatre.

Concordia will host its annual Christmas at Concordia concerts Dec. 7-9. Performances will be Friday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, at 3 and 7 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m., at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. All concerts are open to the public free of charge, but tickets are required.

The Concordia Alumni Association honored eight individuals and two couples as part of its 2012 Homecoming and Alumni Reunion Weekend celebration, Oct. 12-14. The awards are given annually to those who have made outstanding accomplishments in their careers, personal endeavors or in service to the university, church or world.
