Concordia’s chapters of Sigma Tau Delta and Pi Kappa Delta inducted new members this week. Sigma Tau Delta is a national honor society for students studying English. Pi Kappa Delta is a national honor society for students involved in communication classes and forensics.

Bells will ring and the music will swing in three winter concerts at Concordia. First, the Concordia Chamber Orchestra will perform at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, in the Music Center’s Recital Hall. Then, the Winter JazzFest will showcase Concordia’s Jazz Ensemble and Vocal Jazz Choir on Friday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in Weller Hall auditorium. Finally, the Concordia Handbell Choir and Handbell Choir II will perform a concert at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, in the Music Center’s Recital Hall. All concerts are open to the public at no charge.

Students will soon have the opportunity to benefit from a new partnership between Concordia and Northeast Community College. The presidents of the two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Tuesday on Concordia’s campus in Seward to solidify financial and educational commitments of their new partnership, effective immediately.

High school students from across the country performed in an honor choir and honor band as part of Musical Arts Day, Friday, Nov. 7, on the Concordia campus. The day culminated in an evening concert in the Physical Education Building.

Two members of Concordia’s forensics team earned high places at the Dragon/Loper Rodeo Swing meet in Hutchinson, Kansas, on Nov. 1. Emily Kollbaum and Melonie Kotschwar placed third in Duo, and Kollbaum placed fifth in Program of Oral Interpretation.

The annual Scholarship Parade of Homes will celebrate its 20th anniversary of raising scholarship dollars for high school students in Seward County who will attend Concordia in Seward or Southeast Community College in Milford. Five homes will be open for this year’s parade on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The C. G. “Kelly” and Virginia Holthus Family Plaza was dedicated at Concordia on Monday, Oct. 27. The plaza, a new outdoor gathering space just north of the university’s Janzow Campus Center, is named after the project’s lead donors, Kelly and Virginia Holthus of York, Nebraska. Approximately 500 guests were in attendance.
