Two members of Concordia’s Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) organization will attend a national SIFE summit in New York City on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8. Andrea Gaide and Samantha Karnes will represent Concordia at the conference.

Greek tragedy will take center stage as Concordia’s first production of the spring semester. The theatre department will present "Antigone" on Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, March 4 at 2 p.m., in the Music Center’s Studio Theatre.

Concordia’s University Chamber Choir will visit the West Coast for a five-day tour Feb. 9-13. The choir will perform six concerts in three cities including Bakersfield, Victorville and Long Beach, Calif.

Dr. Ronald Bork, dean of the College of Education at Concordia, has been selected as a member of the National Board of Examiners for The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. Bork now serves as part of the accreditation team for current or prospective NCATE institutions.

Concordia’s Marxhausen Gallery of Art will host “Notations,” an audio and visual exhibit by Steve Roden. The exhibit will open Sunday, Feb. 5 and run through Friday, March 23. An opening reception will be held in the gallery on Friday, Feb. 10 from 7-9:30 p.m. with an artist talk at 7 p.m. in the Thom Leadership Education Center auditorium.

The first phase of renovations to the physical education building at Concordia is underway. Equipment, weight and locker rooms will be remodeled, the roof will be replaced, the wiring, plumbing and other utilities will be updated and a wrestling room will be completed. The project is scheduled to be done in five phases.

Concordia’s premier vocal ensemble, the University A Cappella Choir, will begin its annual spring tour on Friday, March 9. The 70-member choir has scheduled performances at schools and churches in Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas. All concerts are free and open to the public.

A photographic exhibit of artwork from around the country created by the Center for Liturgical Art at Concordia is now on display in the Wolfram Gallery at the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod International Center in St. Louis. Photos of more than thirty works can be seen until mid-June.

Concordia has received accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission to expand its distance learning degree programs. Numerous academic programs currently offered can now be delivered fully online, including two new graduate programs, Master of Human Services and Master of Public Health. Courses for both new programs are scheduled to begin by May 2012.

The Rev. Dr. Victor J. Belton was the 2012 Martin Luther King Day speaker at Concordia University, Nebraska. Belton’s presentation was titled “Color Outside the Lines.”

Eight Concordia students were inducted into Phi Epsilon Kappa, a health and human performance honor society, during a ceremony on Sunday, Dec. 11. The induction took place in the Hall of Fame room in the Walz Human Performance Complex.

Sixty-eight students competed in the Home School Debate Tournament hosted by Concordia on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2-3. The tournament allowed these students the opportunity to prepare for the upcoming regional and national tournaments in March.
