Concordia will recognize five individuals with honorary degrees and awards at its 107th commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, in the Walz Human Performance Complex arena. The degrees and awards celebrate the contributions and service of these individuals to the Concordia University community and the world.

Rev. John Mehl recently joined the Concordia community as the director of mission partnerships and church relations. His role includes developing and nurturing partnerships with churches and districts of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, as well as with national and international missions to encourage mission involvement and opportunities for the campus community.

Thirteen senior artists have work on display in the Bachelor of Fine Arts Senior Thesis exhibition at Concordia. The show opens April 22 in the Marxhausen Gallery of Art on the Concordia campus. An opening reception is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, with a gallery talk at 2 p.m.

A team from Concordia competed in the third annual Lutheran Church Extension Fund National Student Marketing Competition April 4 in St. Louis, Mo. This was the university’s first time entering the competition.

Concordia will hold its 107th commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, in the Walz Human Performance Complex arena. A baccalaureate service will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 9, at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward.

Music will fill the air this spring as four ensembles from Concordia perform end-of-the-semester concerts. On Sunday, April 27, the Male Chorus and Women’s Chorale will perform a 4 p.m. concert at St. Gregory the Great Seminary in Seward. On Monday, April 28, the University Concert Band and Brass Ensemble will hold a 7 p.m. performance at St. John Lutheran Church, also in Seward. All concerts are open to the public at no charge.

Nearly 1,500 elementary and middle school students showcased their talents at the 70th annual Gathering of the Talents festival held at Concordia on Saturday, April 5. Participants and their families traveled from 48 schools across Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas and South Dakota.

A student-led drama, “The Gospel Mime,” will tell the Easter story through a theatrical production April 14-15 at Concordia. “The Gospel Mime” will begin at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 14, and at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, in the Weller Hall auditorium on the Concordia campus.

Six short plays will be staged as part of the annual One-Act Play Festival at Concordia. The shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. each night from Thursday, April 10, through Saturday, April 12, in the Music Center’s Studio Theater. All shows are free and open to the public. Limited seating is available. No advance tickets are required.

Twenty-two students in the Concordia art department received scholarship endowments as part of Concordia’s annual student art show. The show opened March 30 in the Marxhausen Gallery of Art. The show features work by dozens of student artists and will remain on display through April 11.

Concordia celebrated the generosity of its donors with its annual Donor Thank You Celebration on March 22 at the Country Club of Lincoln. Concordia recognized Virginia Hughes as the recipient of its 2014 Sower Award, the university’s premier philanthropic award.

The 16-voice Chamber Choir from Concordia will embark on a 10-day tour of the upper western United States May 10-19. Tour stops include churches and schools in Iowa, South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming.

Emotions will rise as the Concordia theater department presents "The Glass Menagerie" by Tennessee Williams. The play will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, March 28 and 29, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, in the Black Box Studio Theater, located in the lower level of Concordia’s Music Center.

The University Symphonic Band will perform seven concerts at churches and schools during its annual tour. The band will perform throughout Missouri and Illinois April 3–6 and at St. John Lutheran Church in its hometown of Seward, Neb., April 13.

The moon, Jupiter and the Orion Nebula, among other celestial objects, will be the highlights of four open houses at the Osten Observatory at Concordia. The observatory will be open from 8 to 9:30 p.m. on April 6, 7, 8 and 9. Admittance is free, and the public is invited to attend.

The fair will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday–Wednesday, April 7–9, and from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in room 113 of the Thom Leadership Education Center on the Concordia campus.

Prepare for 24 hours of laughs as Concordia’s IMPROVables comedy troupe takes the stage for its annual IMPROV-a-thon. The troupe recently released its cast list for the event, which will provide students and the community with 24 consecutive hours of improvisational comedy and serve as a clothing drive for the People’s City Mission in Lincoln, Neb. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 21, and will run through Saturday night, March 22, on the top floor of the Janzow Campus Center.

The best of Concordia student artwork was recognized at a Sunday, March 30, awards presentation at Marxhausen Gallery. The gallery exhibit, located within Jesse Hall on Concordia’s campus, will remain open through April 11.
