Half-price books, diaries and other school supplies will be available for purchase at Concordia’s annual half-price Scholastic Book Fair April 1, 3–5 and 6, 2017.

Teachers, parents, students and community members are invited to stock up on half-price books and more for people of all ages. Concordia’s final half-price Scholastic Book Fair will take place from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on April 1, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 3–5 and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on April 6, 2017, in room 113 of the Thom Leadership Education Center on campus.

Every year, Concordia University, Nebraska partners with Scholastic to host two book fairs to provide students, teachers and Seward community members the opportunity to purchase books, school supplies and other educational materials. In 2012, Scholastic discontinued half-price books fairs in favor of buy one get one free fairs after discovering that the half-price fair was usually a better deal for the customer. After some convincing, the company allowed Concordia to be the only school in the country to uphold the half-price book fair.

Dr. Leah Serck, an emeritus professor of education, has organized the book fair for many years and has recruited local volunteers and retired teachers to help run the event.

“The time has come now, though, for the other workers to also retire, so this will be the very last Scholastic half-price book fair anywhere, said Serck. “It is the end of an era, for Scholastic and Concordia, and you are encouraged to come enjoy it.”
