Alumni and community invited to Homecoming and Alumni Reunion Weekend at Concordia

The 2018 Homecoming football game at Concordia is scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, against Midland University.

Alumni of Concordia will be welcomed back to campus Sept. 21-23 for special events during the 2018 Homecoming and Alumni Reunion Weekend and to celebrate 125 years of Concordia’s ministry.

"Concordia is looking forward to welcoming back our alumni for a wonderful weekend of reunions, games and other events," said Jennifer Furr, director of alumni and university relations. "We thank God for the opportunity to have alumni and their families reconnect with one another and rediscover all their favorite Concordia memories."

The signing of the “I-beam” for the new Dunklau Center for Math, Science and Business will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday.  The new facility is being built along Brommer Drive on Concordia’s campus and will house the academic departments of science (biology, chemistry, physics and environmental science), math, business and computer science.

A free homecoming fair with games and other activities will take place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The C.G. “Kelly” and Virginia Holthus Family Plaza.

A pre-game tailgate meal for Homecoming attendees and the public will be held starting at 11:30 a.m. on The C.G. “Kelly” and Virginia Holthus Family Plaza and Brommer Drive. Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door. Concordia’s football game versus Midland University kicks off at 1 p.m. in Bulldog Stadium.

Additionally, there will be a formal homecoming banquet and alumni awards ceremony at the Graduate Hotel in Lincoln, beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Concordia Vocal Jazz Choir will be performing, followed by a few words from President Brian Friedrich and the awards presentation.

Concordia will honor several selected alumni and friends of the university who have demonstrated excellent service in the church and the world. Honorees include:

  • Alumna of the Year – Sheila Psencik, ’96 and ‘05
  • Young Alumnus of the Year: Heath Trampe, ’05
  • Servant Leadership Award: Dr. Andrew Benscoter, ’02 and ‘05
  • Lifetime Service Award – Dr. William Preuss, ’60 and ’75, and Dr. Judith Preuss ‘60
  • Family Heritage Award – Roggow Family
  • Lifelong Learner Award – Katie Bockelman, ’93 and ‘16
  • Honorary Bulldog Spirit Award – Irene Schamber

Concordia will also induct several former Bulldog athletes into the Concordia Athletic Hall of Fame:

  • Carol Pankoke Cepak, ‘84, Softball
  • Brandon Seifert, ‘01, Track and Field/Cross Country
  • Mike Works, ‘92, Men’s Basketball
  • Jon Ziegler, ‘07, Men’s Basketball
  • 2004-05, Women’s Cross Country

Visitors to campus are welcome to explore campus buildings; visit with faculty, staff and students; enjoy meals; attend event receptions and cheer on the Bulldogs at athletic events.
