Chris Tegtmeier, a sophomore to be at Concordia University, Nebraska, has been chosen by USA Track & Field (USATF), the National Governing Body for track and field, long-distance running and race walking in the United States, as one of two race walkers in the Under 23 age bracket to represent the United States in the North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Development Cup in Race Walking.

The NACAC Under 23 Race Walk Cup, an international road race, will take place August 12th in Haupaugge, New York. Tegtemier and Team USA will be racing against teams from North America, Central America and the Caribbean (NACAC).

Tegtmeier, from Jansen, Neb., is a graduate of Fairbury high school. He has developed his race walking skills quickly, participating in the event for just over seven months. After beginning to learn the race walk technique in mid December 2006, Tegtmeier earned All-America honors with a second place finish at the NAIA Indoor National Championships in March 2007 at the 3k distance. He was also an outdoor NAIA All-American for the Bulldogs, finishing third at the NAIA Championship meet in the 5k race walk.

Tegtmeier walked his first 10k race in April at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia. He finished second overall, defeating several of the top athletes in his age group. His time of 46:25.89 ranked as the best 10k time of 2007 for a United States athlete in the 20-22 age group.

In addition to participating in the NACAC Under 23 Race Walk Cup, Tegtmeier has been will be taking part in the USATF Race Walk Talent ID Program. He will participate in a training camp in New Jersey the two days preceding his international race. The program combines technique coaching along with an elite mentoring program. His short term goals are qualifying for USATF National Championships in the open division. He would eventually like to qualify for the Olympic Games.
