FB: Bulldogs picked eighth at GPAC football media day

After finishing in ninth place with a record of 2-8 during the 2006 season, the Bulldogs were picked to finish eighth in the 2007 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll.

The poll was announced on Monday during the seventh annual GPAC football media day at The Marina Inn in South Sioux City, Neb. The University of Sioux Falls topped the poll with 100 points and 10 first place votes. Morningside (1) received the other first place vote.

The complete GPAC Poll is listed below:

  3.  Morningside College
  4. Nebraska Wesleyan
  5. Hastings College
  6. Dana College 
  7. Dakota Wesleyan
  8. Concordia
  9. Midland Lutheran
  10. Briar Cliff
  11. Doane

Courtney Meyer, Concordia's head coach, talked about the excitement for the upcoming season and the team theme during the press conference.

"We are excited to get the season started," said Meyer. "We feel good about the quality of the guys returning. I think we are going to have a very unified team, which is reflected in our team theme, ‘Undivided'."

Coach Meyer also touched on some of the strengths of the Bulldogs for the upcoming season.

"We are going to rely on our backfield with returning seniors JaMaine Lewis and Jeff Neujahr," said Meyer. "Both of these guys (Lewis and Neujahr) have established themselves as quality guys."

Concordia opens the season on at home, taking on the Briar Cliff University Chargers on Sept. 1 for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
