In late July Prof. Tim Rippstein led a mission team in northern Canada that included five students from Concordia and one high school student.
"Our students grow from this experience in many ways, some of them unique to each person, but they all develop a broader sense of the Lord's kingdom and His love for people, children of other countries and cultures," said Rippstein.
"Students are challenged to understand the differences in cultures, appreciate their own culture, but it also raises questions which would not be considered without an experience such as this."
While in the village of Grand Rapids this group teamed up with a church group from Landmark, Manitoba, to teach more than 100 children the Gospel of our Lord through story, activities, crafts and song. This is the third year students from Concordia have lead VBS in Grand Rapids through the SILOAM program (Service International Learning Opportunities and Ministries).
The trip is one of several international servant trips involving other cultures organized and sponsored through the SILOAM Project.
The Concordia students on the trip included Lindsey Howell, Katie Charlton, Julie Hankins, Keri Pageler, Angela Weinhold. The high school student was Stephanie Rippstein.
